Kadiyat Safiya
Kadiyat Safiya is an Egyptian drama series that first aired during Ramadan 2010 and gave Mai Ezz Eldin one of the most striking leading roles of her career. She plays Safiya, a young woman from a small Egyptian village whose quiet life ends the day her father dies and leaves her a large inheritance in land. Within days a stranger named Sabri arrives claiming to be the brother she never knew existed, and step by step he takes over her home, her land and her name. When Sabri is found dead, every piece of evidence points to Safiya. She is convicted and sentenced, and believes her story is over until she catches sight of the man she is supposed to have killed, alive and watching her. What follows is a desperate run for the truth with a police officer named Mamdouh as her only ally, along a trail that leads far past one village into a network built on stolen land in Sinai. Directed by Ahmed Shafik and written by Ayman Salama, the series layers a criminal mystery over a story about land, inheritance and the people willing to take both. Mai Ezz Eldin prepared for the part by living alongside two young women from the village where filming took place so she could master the rural dialect, and the result carries the whole performance. She is joined by Tarek Lotfy as Sabri, Ahmed Salah El Saadany as Mamdouh, Sameh El Serety, Lotfy Labib, Sami Maghawry, Donia El Masry and Mohamed El Tagy.
