Battle Of Damned
Battle of the Damned (2013) drops action icon Dolph Lundgren into a quarantined city where a lethal viral outbreak has turned the population into fast, ferocious killers. Written and directed by Christopher Hatton, this science fiction action horror hybrid mixes classic siege thrills with something the genre rarely offers: a squad of combat robots fighting on humanity's side. Lundgren plays Major Max Gatling, a private military contractor hired by a wealthy industrialist to extract his daughter Jude (Melanie Zanetti) from inside the infection zone. The job falls apart within minutes. Max loses his entire team, pushes deeper into the ruins alone, and discovers that Jude belongs to a small band of survivors led by the hardened Duke (David Field), a group with no intention of leaving on his terms. With a firebombing scheduled to level the city and the infected closing in from every street, Max reprograms a pack of abandoned military robots and turns them into the survivors' last line of defense. What follows is a straight shot of firefights, close quarters combat and machine versus monster carnage. Starring Dolph Lundgren, Melanie Zanetti, Matt Doran, David Field, Lydia Look and Jen Kuo Sung. Runtime is roughly 88 minutes, rated R for strong violence and gore. If you like post apocalyptic action, zombie survival horror and lean B movie thrills in the spirit of Escape from New York, Battle of the Damned delivers exactly what it promises.
