Thirteen years after an ambush cost him everything, special forces agent Lin Dong must protect a young woman with a bioengineered heart from the cyborg mercenary who needs it to survive.
Bleeding Steel
Bleeding Steel is a 2017 science fiction action thriller starring Jackie Chan as Lin Dong, a special forces agent whose life splits in two on the worst night of his career. Pulled away from his dying daughter's hospital bed to escort a fugitive scientist across the city, he walks into an ambush that leaves him with nothing but a bullet wound and a list of questions. Thirteen years later, those questions come back wearing a face he recognizes. The scientist's research produced a bioengineered heart, and the girl it now beats inside has no idea what she is carrying. Nancy, played by Ouyang Nana, lives an ordinary student life in Sydney until a squad of masked killers turns her into the most hunted person in the city. Their leader, Andre (Callan Mulvey), is a decaying half machine soldier who needs that heart to stay alive, and he is willing to tear apart a rooftop, an opera house or an entire street to reach it. What follows is classic Jackie Chan on a much bigger canvas. Director Leo Zhang stages chases across the Sydney skyline, close quarters brawls that weaponize every object in the room, and a wild final act inside an underground fortress, then folds in the physical comedy and improvised stunt work that made Chan a global star. Show Lo adds a lighter streak as a fast talking hustler who keeps stumbling into the wrong fight, while Erica Xia-Hou brings genuine menace as Andre's enforcer. Underneath the gunfire and the neon there is a quieter story about a father who never got the chance to say goodbye, and it gives the action a weight this genre rarely bothers with. Filmed largely in Australia and released in 2017, Bleeding Steel is one of the most ambitious entries in Jackie Chan's late career, blending hard science fiction hardware with the stunt craft he built his name on.
