Float follows Waverly Liu (Andrea Bang), a recent medical school graduate whose life has been planned out for her since childhood. With a residency waiting in Toronto and her summer plans suddenly off the table, she makes an impulsive detour to a quiet coastal town in British Columbia to stay with her aunt (Michelle Krusiec) and finally spend a season living for herself. Everything shifts at a beach party, when Waverly nearly drowns and is pulled from the water by Blake Hamilton (Robbie Amell), the local lifeguard. He offers to teach her to swim, and the lessons quickly become the best part of her days. As the summer stretches on, the distance between them closes, and Waverly starts to question whether the future she has been dutifully walking toward is the one she actually wants. But Blake carries the weight of a past he has not left behind, and Waverly's start date comes closer every day. By the end of summer, the two have to decide what a season of love is really worth.
